Achieving your best Spring skin

Almost nothing is as satisfying as the outcome of rolling up your sleeves and giving your house a deep Spring clean; implementing the old heave-ho to things that no longer “spark joy." (thanks for that Marie Kondo.)

So while you are saying goodbye to all those mystery Tupperware lids that have gathered over the years, it may also be a good time to overhaul your skincare products and routine!

Because one of our passions is skin health, we thought we’d ask the experts in beauty therapy for their advice.

We interviewed Emma Bacon owner of award winning Renaissance Spa and for her top tips on achieving your best Spring Skin!

Jeuneora: Thanks for talking to us Emma! We'd love you to share your wisdom, and some of your favourite products with us. Your team of beauty therapists are industry leaders in skin treatments and products. What would be your number one piece of advice when selecting a skincare product to achieve glowing Spring skin?
Emma: Consult an expert before spending your money! There are many incredible ingredients and formulations out there but to get good results you need to use what is best for you. Unfortunately there isn’t a one size fits all when it comes to skincare so what’s good for someone else may not necessarily be the best thing for you.

Jeuneora: For those of us that are about to overhaul our bathroom cupboards, we have to know...How long is too long to hold onto unused face products?
Emma: 6 months is a good rule of thumb. Usually products have a tiny jar on the back with the number of months that the product will be ok for once opened. Remember to store products in a cupboard away from sun, with the lid on tight to prevent the ingredients from oxidising. And if in doubt, throw it out!

Jeuneora: For someone that has extremely dry skin after winter, what is something they can use/do at home to help reduce dryness?
Emma: We absolutely LOVE Ultraceuticals Ultra Replenishing Mask. It’s a lifesaver any time of the year for distressed skin that needs that extra comfort and recovery. It can be massaged in and left on overnight for a deeply soothing and nourishing treatment.

Jeuneora: What is the one thing you see or hear people doing to their skin which you wish you could tell them to stop?
Emma: Ah, great question! It would have to be over exfoliating. While exfoliation is great, too much too often can have an adverse effect on the skin and cause inflammation, breakouts, redness, and irritation. Sometimes less is more... we come back to our first suggestion, consult an expert.

Jeuneora: We talk a lot about caring for your skin from the inside out, especially when it comes to gut health. How important do you think gut health is for having ‘good’ skin?
Emma: Very! It’s so great that it’s a real focus in our industry at the moment. It’s not the only answer, but it’s important to remember that your skin is your biggest organ and really reflects what’s going on internally, not only with the gut but also your hormones, your emotional health, sleep, stress, and much more!

Jeuneora: We couldn't agree more Emma! Hormones, stress and lack of sleep play a huge role in your overall health and wellness! So, once those things are beginning to get sorted out, what product and/or treatment would you recommend for promoting bright, fresh skin?
Emma: Oooh that’s a tricky one. It would be a tie between The Ultraceuticals Brightening Accelerator Mask Treatment - an enzyme peel that literally makes your skin glow with goodness, OR our very calming and relaxing Sothys Seasonal Radiance Facial - a cocktail of oxygenating minerals and vitamins to detoxify the skin.

Jeuneora: That sounds like bliss! What about advice for those who are on a strict budget? What would be one product you would invest in for healthy skin (if you could only choose one!)
Emma: This is easy! Wear Sunscreen - just like that 90s song. ;) Every day, regardless of the weather, if you work inside or even if you have skin that “doesn’t burn”. A moisturiser containing a quality sunscreen really is the best ‘anti-ageing’ product you could ever invest in. Our favourites are the Ultraceuticals Protective Daily Moisturiser SPF30+ $89 or the Coola White Tea Classic Sport Face SPF30+ $55.

Jeuneora: That's great advice Emma - we never thought about using it even if you work indoors! Once again, thank you so much for giving up your time to be interviewed, and for these fantastic skin saver ideas!
