When it comes to our skin, we all want that golden-hour, no-makeup glow. Perfect for day to day life, or a day full of zoom meetings – this fresh look is here to stay!

Our very lovely (and very glowy) ambassador and makeup artist, Kasia Stanicich, sat down with us to share her simple version of the no-makeup glow and (spoiler alert) it all starts with good skincare.

It’s all in the prep

Think of your skin as a canvas. When applying makeup, you want it to glide effortlessly onto your skin, which is why it needs a whole lotta love beforehand.

“One of the biggest things is exfoliation,” Kasia says, “It’s the key to making sure your makeup doesn’t stick to any dry areas.” You can use a gentle scrub or polish (like SupearlaNova) or a chemical exfoliant a few times a week to cleanse pores, remove excess oil, and leave your skin fresh, glowing, and ready to soak in the next skincare steps.

Less is not always more

You may feel like a full skincare routine before makeup is too heavy, but in Kasia’s opinion, it most definitely isn’t.

“In the morning before applying any makeup, I’ll use a cream or oil based cleanser to keep my skin hydrated and plump, then go in with a super-hydrating serum that contains Vitamin C. Pause before you do anything else to let it really soak in.”

She then layers up with a rich, multi-tasking moisturiser (her favourite is GoLightly) to lock in that hydration, and follows up with an SPF 50+. Always. This is the most important step in your routine, as UV rays can damage your skin even when you can’t see the sun. As for taking SPF off at the end of the day? Double-cleansing is a must, especially if you’re prone to spots!

Lay your base

To lay the base for your no-makeup glow, Kasia suggests using a tinted moisturiser or sheer liquid foundation. Just blend with a buffing brush, and voila! Light, everyday coverage. Kasia recommends Fenty Beauty Eaze Drop Skin Tint Foundation or L'Oréal Infallible Pro-Glow Foundation. And if you want even less coverage? The Drunk Elephant D-Bronzi Sunshine Drops can be mixed in with your moisturiser for a super natural glow. Plus, they contain antioxidants that help to protect your skin from environmental nasties.

If you like covering dark spots or pimples with concealer, Kasia recommends matching the texture to your base. For example, if you’ve gone for a sheer foundation, use a sheer concealer to minimise the contrast.

Make it pop

A pop of colour can completely lift your face! For a natural rosey pink look, Kasia recommends Glossier Cloud Paint in ‘Dusk’ or the Mecca Maxima Off Duty Blush Stick in ‘Pinch’. Both have a cream texture that melts into your skin, making for a more natural finish. For extra impact, Kasia loves to swipe it across her eyelids and pop a touch on the lips too.

The final step

With a quick brush of the brows and a flick of mascara, you’re ready to go.

A spritz a day keeps the dullness away

Makeup can sometimes lose its glow as the day goes on, but Kasia is a big fan of a quick spritz to give your skin new life. Keep a hydrating face mist like the Mecca Maxima Hydrating Face Mist in your bag (or by your desk) for glow on the go.
